We are delighted to announce that we have appointed a new distributor in Cornwall, The Lost Gardens of Heligan.
‘Twenty-five years ago, Heligan’s historic gardens were unknown and unseen, lost under a tangle of weeds. It was only the chance discovery that led to the restoration of this once great estate. Today, The Lost Gardens have been put back where they belong in pride of place among the finest gardens in Cornwall, and they are visited by many thousands of people every year. Heligan is also a home to a large and ever-increasing variety of native and rare breeds of livestock and poultry, and the farm and its animals hold a real place in the heart of the Heligan experience and its history.
Laura Tremayne from The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall
Our poultry are an endless source of entertainment for young and old. We keep free range geese, chickens, bantams, ducks and turkeys. In general, the poultry have until now not been kept for their meat (apart from some turkeys each year destined for the Heligan kitchen at Christmas). However, we are now gradually increasing our range of rare breed chickens, ducks and turkeys, so to produce more variety for our kitchen and our visitors. We are doing this using only pure-bred birds for controlled breeding purposes, or buying in eggs for incubation.
We encourage the growth of the learning process about where our food comes from and how it is produced but we also want to demonstrate how to hatch and look after poultry and how simple and fun this really is! By now stocking Brinsea products in our Heligan shop we hope to inspire many more visitors to enjoy at home hatching and becoming poultry owners.’ Laura Tremayne
The Heligan Gardens and Estate are open every day except Christmas Day, please check the Heligan website for opening times.
