Held just once every four years, the convention is a major international event, bringing together leading veterinarians, biologists, breeders and conservationists to share knowledge and discuss parrot management, breeding and conservation.
With Brinsea incubators used by parrot breeders and conservation programmes around the world, the convention provided a valuable opportunity to share some of the knowledge we have gained from more than 50 years of developing incubation equipment.
Marc gave a breakfast presentation on parrot incubation, discussing the particular requirements of these delicate and often extremely valuable eggs. Successful parrot incubation requires careful management of factors including temperature, humidity, egg turning and weight loss, with close observation throughout the incubation period helping breeders respond to the needs of developing embryos.
Specialist incubation has long been an important area for Brinsea. Our Zoologica incubators have been developed specifically with exotic bird breeders in mind, providing the precise control and flexibility required when incubating parrot and other exotic bird eggs. Adjustable turning frequency and angle, together with interchangeable egg quadrants, allow incubation conditions to be adapted for different species and egg sizes.
Following his presentation, Marc joined our Spanish distributor, Elena, on her exhibition stand, where there was an opportunity to meet existing Brinsea users as well as breeders and avian specialists from many different countries.

Marc described the convention as a fantastic opportunity to meet parrot experts and enthusiasts from around the world, exchange ideas and learn more about the important work being carried out in parrot breeding and conservation.
Events such as the Tenerife Parrot Convention are particularly valuable because they bring together expertise from many different areas. The knowledge gained through research, veterinary science, practical breeding experience and conservation can be shared, helping to improve both the welfare of birds in human care and the prospects for threatened species in the wild.
For Brinsea, it was also an opportunity to hear directly from the people working with these remarkable birds and to better understand the challenges they encounter in incubation and breeding. That exchange of knowledge is invaluable as we continue to develop specialist incubation equipment for breeders and conservation programmes around the world.
