‘Lower Moss Wood Nature Reserve and Wildlife Hospital is based just outside Knutsford in Cheshire. It is a registered charity and incorporates busy wildlife hospital as well as an 18 acre nature reserve.

Lower Moss Wood provides a place for schools, community groups and others to come and learn about conservation and the environment. We welcome groups of any age and pride ourselves on accessibility for all. The Wildlife Hospital takes in any orphaned, sick or injured wild animal or bird for care. Lower Moss Wood is also a private nature reserve. The Hospital takes in nearly 3,000 casualties a year and the majority of these arrive in the spring and summer period. Our intensive care unit is particularly busy during this period with sick and injured young birds, hedgehogs, bats and ducklings.

It is critical that we have suitable incubators / brooders to ensure our patients are kept warm and at the correct temperature. The Brinsea TLC-50 and 40 incubators are used for a range of species including hedgehogs, birds and ducklings. The smaller Brinsea TLC-30 cube style incubators host bats, very young birds and some small rodents. We have struggled in recent years with equipment that was very old and needed replacing. It has been incredibly difficult to monitor and maintain the correct temperature for our patients and essential that ahead of the busy season we have correctly working kit.

The arrival of the incubators has caused much excitement with our staff and volunteers. The ability to accurately set temperature and easily check on the units is vital. Equally the units are very easy to assemble and to clean. The structure means we can easily monitor the occupant through the clear window / door without disturbing and the gauges mean we have confidence in the accuracy of the settings.

They are lightweight and can easily be moved if required (e.g. if we need isolate in a separate room) which also makes life much easier!’
