I have recently purchased this item, which arrived promptly and in excellent condition. Prior to purchasing this item I had contacted Brinsea support team via a phone call and spoke to Juliette, who was the most helpful person I have ever spoken to when phoning a business. She has fuelled my children’s enthusiasm for incubating eggs and provided us with much needed information. This candling lamp is fantastic and has enabled my children to be hands on with candling the eggs in a safe way. Many thanks.
Really handy item when incubating, works on all types of chicken eggs that I've tried hatching so far
Ideal for watching eggs develop. Safe way to handle eggs and makes viewing very clear. Definitely recommend this.
A really practical easy to use candler for checking out the eggs. I like how straightforward it is and easy to use on your own
I love using this. It provides a really clear view, especially on eggs with paler shells.
Nice and bright. Works well for small eggs. Unable to comment on larger ones.
I would like to say a big thank you to Brinsea for allowing me the loan of a candler for display as part of my educational display at my poultry event at the Royal Norfolk Show. The children were intrigued to see inside the eggs we had on display at various stages of incubation.Along side the development charts you supplied too they were able to guess what stage they were at which reflected the excitement shown on their faces. A very educational tool coupled with eggs hatching in a Brinsea incubator lent itself to being a huge success.
Using this candling lamp on day 11 of hatching my chicks. Had Six in the incubator but I knew one was infertile after candling but kept it in anyway as I'm new hatching. And yes it was spot on only five hatched. Next time I can rest assure the candling light is right.
This candler is a top buy. Easy to use and good value for money. Put an end to me using a torch and a piece of cardboard. Thanks so much brinsea. Also love your incubators. Mine has been in use for years and years now. Good after service and spare parts too! Good company to do business with.
I use this to inspect my eggs, works well and easy to use.
does the job and is an ideal size so it's easy to store and handle would recommend for anyone looking to candle eggs
This is a fantastic way of viewing the eggs and much easier to use than a phone torch which has nearly resulted in a disaster because of the eggs rolling! The ova view gives you the incredible opportunity of seeing the eggs develop.
I ordered one of these after getting bored of using my phone’s light function! Better just to buy an OvaView - your previous eggs won’t roll off it and it creates a good seal so all the light goes through the egg making candling much easier. I’m incubating 4 Marans eggs (amongst others) and would advise getting the high intensity model if you frequently hatch very dark eggs. This is perfect for my needs as I usually hatch lighter eggs. Batteries are supplied too which is handy.
This was great with the paler eggs, good visibility. Would prob buy the hi intensity one for darker shelled eggs.
I regularly use it for candling domestic chickens' eggs during incubation, and with light-shelled eggs I don't even feel it necessary to carry out the procedure in a darkened room. Dark-shelled eggs are trickier, though I suspect Brinsea's high intensity model will manage this problem. It doesn't just work for domestic fowl, either - I've used it to candle small perching bird eggs, too.
I'm so glad we bought this - it makes it possible to see the development in some detail and the children love it. We have to ration it's use though out of fairness to the embryo, especially when it becomes sensitive to light.
Was able to clearly see the veins and air sack as the ducklings developed.
just got this the other day, well it works excellent on the light eggs but unfortunately for me 3 of the eggs I need to candle are for cuckoo marans that are dark brown (chocolate) and it just dosent seem to show through proper, I should have gone for the high intensity model, oh well. on a positive note, it is well built and easy to use. just purchased a brinsea mini advance now also, should be with me in the morning ready to incubate some indian runner duck eggs, hope I get the settings right for them.
I used the OvaView Candling Lamp to view the egg on day 7, day 14 and day 21. I could see the baby chick moving inside the egg on day 7.
I was able to see everything so much clearer than with the homemade lamp and box I used the first time and being able to put the egg on the candler and look from all angles made it a lot easier to use as well.
Great product and great price
Makes candling so much easier!
I would like to tell you that the Brinsea Ovaview candling lamp and Ecoglow Chick Brooder have been invaluable to our science department. The candling lamp was a really effective way of seeing into the eggs too ascertain which ones were fertile during their incubation period. Once hatched, the brooder then came into play; the different heights we could adjust it too was a really useful feature as the chicks grew.
So easy to use - foolproof!!
I found the ova view made easy work of candling eggs with clear result as early as day 4. Its shape makes it multi purpose - easy to hold and shine through the eggs or eggs can be sat on it.
An easy to use little light that lets you know exactly what is going on inside the eggs! Even though it is operated by batteries, they last for ages ( I bought mine last spring and I am still using the same batteries)
