Great Results and Easy to Use...

Posted by Liz Morris on 25/02/2019

I purchased the Ovation 28 Advance as a Christmas present to myself and have just hatched out 20 white pekin bantam eggs out of the 22 I put in. I'm really thrilled with the results. This incubator is easy to set up and use and other than checking the water there is little to do but wait for your fluffy chicks to arrive! I rang Brinsea as I was unsure whether the humidity for bantam eggs should be the same as for large fowl and they were extremely helpful. I've just put another batch in and assuming they are fertile I'm confident of another good hatch. Great to be able to support a family run, British business who excel in their field. Highly recommend them.

Perfect incubator

i have been using Brinsea incubators for years and always had high hatch rates

It just goes to show you get what you pay for.

I purchased one of your Ovation 28 incubators at Newark show after struggling to get more than one or two very weak chicks from a Chinese incubator. I’m thrilled to say I’ve just had 23 baby quail hatch - I've sent you a picture - with the only difference being the new incubator! It just goes to show you get what you pay for.

With excellent hatch success rates and a three years manufacturers guarantee, we really can’t fault the Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator.

The Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator is the second incubator we have purchased since we first began hatching fertile eggs 11 years ago. Our first was also a Brinsea, the Octogan model which lasted us well. It was thanks to our previous satisfaction with the Brinsea brand we decided to invest in another of their models. We initially chose upon the Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator because it held a good number of eggs, has an automatic cradle and a simple to use display panel to adjust settings and check on the temperature and humidity. Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator – Price Currently retailing around the £300 mark, the Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator is by far not the most or least expensive incubator on the market. We would say it is middle of the range, an investment that will just keep on giving. Whether you are incubating fertile eggs from your own flock or purchasing eggs from elsewhere raising your own chicks as a pose to buying in adult birds can be a more cost effective way of expanding your flock. Not to mention the joy bought by watching your eggs pip and unzip into chicks, a priceless miracle each and every time! Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator – Design The overall design of the Brinsea ovation 28 advance egg incubator is very good, we particularly like the excellent visibility through the top half which is made from a very durable clear plastic. The bottom half a sturdy base in which the egg trays sit, at first a little dubias of the single rowed trays as a pose to the tray with movable divides we had become a custom to with our previous incubator. For our first hatch we set a mixture of 26 large chicken eggs ordered from Redruth Poultry, we did notice some were a little snug in the tray so ordered a set of large trays for next time. On reflection this is more beneficial when it comes to hatching as once all the trays are removed there is plenty of room for chicks to hatch safely. Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator – Usability The Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator has proven to be a simple and easy to use machine. From the initial set-up we didn’t run into any problems at all, the instructions provided are very clear guiding you through the different options. As well as setting the correct humidity on the control panel water should be added to the reservoirs situated within the bottom half of the incubator underneath the egg trays. Now on our second hatch, 30 mixed bantam eggs from A & J Poultry we observed when candling on the seventh day that all were fertile except the very last seven. On reflection this may be because we have been refilling only the front reservoir as and when the humidity dropped. Our thinking behind this is that the only 7 infertile eggs were those above the reservoir we were not refilling. Initially one would think that raising the humidity within the incubator would suffice, we will however continue going forward to distribute any added water between the two. Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator – Success Rate Our first hatch rate using the Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator was 14 out of 26, which i think is not a bad success rate at all taking in the considerations of the eggs travelling through the postal system and with it being February when the weather is cold and fertility is naturally at a low. Now on day ten of our second hatch, a mixture of bantam eggs we collected from A&J Poultry. We are yet to know our actual hatch rate however upon candling at 7 days all were fertile except the very last seven as previously mentioned, this may be our own human error by only refilling the front reservoir. In conclusion we can highly recommend the Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator to both a first time user and an experienced poultry hobbyist It offers a well built, easy to clean design. It’s simple settings panel allows accessibility to everyone, no computer or tech skills required. If you can use a television guide you will have no issues with set-up! With excellent hatch success rates and a three years manufacturers guarantee, we really can’t fault the Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance Egg Incubator.

Brinsea every time!

After much research I decided on the Brinsea Ovation 28 Advance for a number of reasons. It has plenty of capacity for my needs (small hobby hatcher), great accuracy, automatic turning and hygrometer function. I set two breeds of eggs which I ordered online and were posted to me. All 10 Araucana eggs are fertile and developing beautifully at day 10 but all 6 Wyandotte eggs were infertile. The seller sent me some replacement Wyandotte eggs so I now have two lots at different stages of incubation. This situation has made me to realise that the Ovation is going to be perfect for a staggered hatch as I’ll be able to lay the first eggs down for lockdown while still having the turning function on to turn the egg rack containing the second batch. This would not be possible with most other incubators that rock or rotate the whole incubator for example. I have made a cardboard divider that will slot in to separate the hatching chicks from the turning rack. (Brinsea, how about selling an accessory for this purpose?) I am so delighted I chose this incubator. Although expensive, it’s a worthwhile investment... If your eggs are gunna hatch, they’re gunna hatch in a Brinsea!

first incubator

i like this incubator but that said it is my first. what i am finding is it's difficult to keep the humidity lower than 60%! if the front tank is kept full the it's around 62%. room humidity is only 20%. i am having to add a little bit of water often to keep it within an acceptable range for duck eggs, it would be very difficult if it was chicken eggs, which i will find out in a couple of months if it is or not. it's almost like the front water trough could do with being smaller.
