Bird Brooding
Altricial species of birds (including all parrots and birds of prey) are blind and helpless when they hatch and it is some weeks before they are able to move around, control their body temperature and feed themselves. During this period the young birds need to be kept in a clean, temperature controlled environment. As they grow and develop down and feathers they can gradually tolerate lower temperatures and the breeder needs to be able to reduce the chamber temperature easily, whilst still maintaining control. Young birds also benefit from being able to see humans from within the chamber; during this early stage in their development it is essential for young birds to become familiar with the presence of people if they are to be tame in adulthood.
Recovery Incubator
The TLC-40 Eco brooder fulfils all of the above functions very cost effectively and can also double as a Hospital Cage for sick or injured birds, used by rescue centres worldwide.
Intensive Care Unit
Brinsea TLC Recovery Incubators provide such an environment and are used around the world by rescue centres, breeding centres and individuals. TLC incubators are the best place for weak and fragile baby animals to heal, hide, cuddle, and grow - especially for tiny babies who aren't yet old enough to retain their own heat. The incubators provide a warm, clean, quiet, safe and reliable haven for these orphaned baby animals. Many young babies need extra help to survive in those early days and a safe, secure, controlled environment gives them the best chance to recover and thrive. Functional Practicality
With hygiene a top priority, the TLC-40 Eco has been carefully designed to make cleaning as easy as possible. The lower half of the cabinets and doors are removable allowing them to be scrubbed and immersed. It is also easy to wipe clean the high gloss finish of the ABS plastic upper cabinet and the fan guard is simply detached to allow access to clean the fan. Even the heater is encased in a metal tube making cleaning easy. The control circuit is housed away from the chamber for reliability. Airflow in the TLC-40 and has been carefully optimised to ensure consistent distribution of heat, so that all chicks are at the same temperature but with the fan maintaining gentle air speeds so that down, fluff and dust are not blown around.
Protected by Biomaster Antimicrobial Additive
To reduce the risk of infection Brinsea incorporate Biomaster Antimicrobial Protection into our incubator cabinets during manufacture. Biomaster Protection is embedded within the plastic itself which prevents the growth of harmful bacteria helping to provide the optimum environment for young animals. Proven to quickly reduce bacterial growth by up to 99.99%
Disinfecting tip:
Please make sure that disinfectant is thoroughly rinsed off plastic parts after cleaning and avoid alcohol based solutions to avoid gradual embrittlement of plastic parts.
We have come across a small number of instances of plastic parts of the Vetario Intensive Care Units and TLC incubators/brooders becoming degraded, brittle and breaking – particularly around the screws on the door hinges) due to the action of some disinfectants. To avoid this don't use disinfectants containing alcohol and take care that all traces of disinfectants or cleaning agents are rinsed away with water after cleaning, especially around the hinge screws.
FILLING THE WATER RESERVOIR
Your TLC-40 Eco is fitted with a water reservoir which humidifies air as it is drawn into the heater enclosure. Use a solution of Brinsea Incubation Disinfectant (1 part concentrate to 100 parts water) in the water reservoir (pan) to inhibit bacterial build-up. It is recommended that the reservoir is topped up with solution daily to reduce dehydration. The evaporating block and filters can be carefully washed by hand but they do need changing regularly.

I run a small home based self funded wildlife rescue and we fund raised for one of these TLC40 Incubators. We have used it for a variety of wildlife over the last year and a half and it is a valuable piece of equipment to our rescue. When by user error we broke the base of the unit Brinsea were amazing at organising a replacement base for us, free of charge. Their customer service and advice is top class and I couldn’t recommend them enough to any wildlife rehabilitators.
We use this incubator on a daily basis for triage of our smaller wildlife patients ranging from mice, bats, and birds to hedgehogs. It heats up very quickly and the curved edges on the inside make it easy to wipe off faeces or other material.
Absolutely brilliant incubator that we use for our little orphaned animals. Maintaining constant temperature reduces stress therefore increases survival! Amazing.
We as a wildlife rescue centre have been using these incubators for many years and they really make a huge difference to our patients. Definitely recommended!
Very well made, reliable product. Served us 4 years
We own 1 of these brooders and it is a critical component for our hospital, we would be lost without Brinsea and their incredibile brooders and incubators which we use for everything from eggs to hedgehogs, birds, foxes and badgers! I cannot recommend them enough and I know most wildlife rescue hospitals use them! Wonderful customer services as well!
My TLC40 ECO incubator has been an absolutely vital piece of equipment and has played a major role in saving many hedgehog lives. It has been instrumental in warming many orphaned babies, a couple of hoglets that were found in a garden pond, soaked through and cold, and in particular Torstein, who came in very cold, wet and flat and with a broken jaw. We doubted that he would last half an hour but with a gentle warm through and some fluids he rallied, had his jaw wired, his parasites treated and six weeks later had made a full recovery and released in the area he was found, I was one proud hedgehog mamma! Now the autumn juvenile season has begun with many very young hedgehogs coming in very sick, cold and with huge parasite burdens my TLC40 ECO is coming into its own once again.
This unit has helped save so many lives in my little wildlife rescues. I wouldn’t be without one now. Keeps a lovely stable temperature for the youngest of orphans and is easy to use. Would recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing one
Just fabulous for the poorly, underweight and orphaned hedgehogs. So easy to use and very reliable. An essential item at "Hedgehog Help Prestatyn". Raising funds for another as only have the one.
Just to let you know this TLC-40 Eco ICU is a life saver. Easy to assemble, use and cleaning is a breeze! We run a hedgehog rescue and have used it for many little collapsed hedgehogs and saved many lives! Thank you for the wonderful customer support they are a fabulous team.
I run a small rural home based self funded hedgehog rescue locally and have recently bought a Brinsea Incubator to help our wildlife. These incubators are invaluable to me, not only do they have constant heat, which is essential to life for an injured hedgehog or bird, but also they have fantastic filtering of germs , which if not filtered can prove fatal for newborn hoglets. They are well made, and easy to clean which is a great help, they have large clear door for observation which is a must when checking on hedgehogs without having to open doors and let the heat escape. I could never be without the incubator and I'm currently raising funds to secure 4 more. Brinsea staff are experienced and nothing is too much trouble. I can certainly recommend Brinsea incubators to all.
I purchased this for my hedgehog rescue a few months ago. Its a little life saver of a thing. Easy to use, quick to arm and easy to monitor and regulate. A few more hedgehogs out there in the wild because of it.
I purchased this incubator last year as I only had heat mats for the sick and orphaned hogs. It has made a huge difference to me as the hogs can be kept at a constant heat relevant to their situation and are nicely contained. It is very easy to use and would recommend to anyone. Hopefully I can purchase another as soon as enough funds have been raised.
How happy are we with this incubator? We have been running our hedgehog Rescue for 6 years and surviving using heat mats until now. This incubator is amazing - quite literally saving hedgehog lives. When they come in collapsed, injured sick or underweight we use the incubator to help them maintain body temperature, which they would otherwise be unable to do themselves. We are so impressed we are fundraising to but a second incubator and will 100% recommend to anyone. Our hedgehog survival rate has improved vastly because of the incubator. BRILLIANT!!
Here at Willows Hedgehog Rescue we admit and treat many hundreds of injured, ill and orphaned hedgehogs each year. The Brinsea TLC Incubators in the main hospital area are a vital tool in the hospitals facilities to help save very ill and orphaned hedgehogs. The very busy time for the incubators here at Willows are the late spring and summer months when orphaned and abandoned hoglet litters start to be admitted. Hoglets can be admitted from as young as just minutes old and we also have litters of premature hoglets admitted. The three Brinsea incubators in use at Willows Hedgehog Rescue provide a lifesaving facility for hoglets with the incubators running constantly housing many litters of hoglets over the spring and summer months. Hoglets that without the incubators would not be able to survive.
Adelaide Bat Care - I love this ICU to bits! They are fantastic for our little injured Microbats because it allows temperatures to be maintained at a temperature for the Microbats to recover without going into torpor, which they do easily especially during the day time. It provides the humidity that they require which once again is so important for their recovery from especially cat attacks! Many Bat Carers not never do without one. It has been the greatest asset to help the Microbats in the initial emergency care that they require when they first come into care, plus an absolute ‘must’ for newborn Microbat babies (pups).
As with all the Brinsea range, i would expect this product to be very accurate and reliable. I am looking to purchase one of these brooders in the future after good results hatching some parrot chicks in one of the Brinsea incubators this year.
