OXYGEN USEAGE: If you require an ICU with oxygen compatibility please visit our specialist Vetario website. The elevated oxygen levels which can be so beneficial to patients' therapy also introduces the hazard of much easier combustion. This means that the higher oxygen levels in an intensive care unit can lead to fire much more readily than in normal atmospheres. The Vetario T40M and T50M have been designed to control these risks and for additional reassurance they have been independently tested by BSI for product safety to the Animal and Medical Incubator standards. The Vetario T40M and T50M models conform to the oxygen fire safety clauses of the current EN 60601-1:2006 + corrigenda 2006 & 2007 standard.
The TLC-40 Advance provides digital control and read-out of temperature, humidity, temperature and power failure alarms and can be further supplemented by Brinsea's optional EX Humidity Pump to provide full control of humidity too (product code: AD25).
Altricial species of birds (including all parrots and birds of prey) are blind and helpless when they hatch and it is some weeks before they are able to move around, control their body temperature and feed themselves. During this period the young birds need to be kept in a clean, temperature controlled environment. As they grow and develop down and feathers they can gradually tolerate lower temperatures and the breeder needs to be able to reduce the chamber temperature easily, whilst still maintaining control. Young birds also benefit from being able to see humans from within the chamber; during this early stage in their development it is essential for young birds to become familiar with the presence of people if they are to be tame in adulthood.
The TLC-40 Advance brooder fulfils all of the above functions very cost effectively and can also double as a Hospital Cage for sick or injured birds, used by rescue centres worldwide.
Intensive Care Unit
Brinsea TLC Recovery Incubators provide such an environment and are used around the world by rescue centres, breeding centres and individuals. TLC incubators are the best place for weak and fragile baby animals to heal, hide, cuddle, and grow - especially for tiny babies who aren't yet old enough to retain their own heat. The incubators provide a warm, clean, quiet, safe and reliable haven for these orphaned baby animals. Many young babies need extra help to survive in those early days and a safe, secure, controlled environment gives them the best chance to recover and thrive. With hygiene a top priority, the TLC-40 Advance has been carefully designed to make cleaning as easy as possible. The lower half of the cabinets and doors are removable allowing them to be scrubbed and immersed. It is also easy to wipe clean the high gloss finish of the ABS plastic upper cabinet and the fan guard is simply detached to allow access to clean the fan. Even the heater is encased in a metal tube making cleaning easy. The control circuit is housed away from the chamber for reliability. Airflow in the TLC-40 and has been carefully optimised to ensure consistent distribution of heat, so that all chicks are at the same temperature but with the fan maintaining gentle air speeds so that down, fluff and dust are not blown around.
Protected by Biomaster Antimicrobial Additive
To reduce the risk of infection Brinsea incorporate Biomaster Antimicrobial Protection into our incubator cabinets during manufacture. Biomaster Protection is embedded within the plastic itself which prevents the growth of harmful bacteria helping to provide the optimum environment for young animals. Proven to quickly reduce bacterial growth by up to 99.99%
Please make sure that disinfectant is thoroughly rinsed off plastic parts after cleaning and avoid alcohol based solutions to avoid gradual embrittlement of plastic parts.
We have come across a small number of instances of plastic parts of the Vetario Intensive Care Units and TLC brooders becoming degraded, brittle and breaking – particularly around the screws on the door hinges) due to the action of some disinfectants. To avoid this don't use disinfectants containing alcohol and take care that all traces of disinfectants or cleaning agents are rinsed away with water after cleaning, especially around the hinge screws.
FILLING THE WATER RESERVOIR
Your TLC-40 Advance is fitted with a water reservoir which humidifies air as it is drawn into the heater enclosure. Use a solution of Brinsea Incubation Disinfectant (1 part concentrate to 100 parts water) in the water reservoir (pan) to inhibit bacterial build-up. It is recommended that the reservoir is topped up with solution daily to reduce dehydration. The evaporating block and filters can be carefully washed by hand but they do need changing regularly.

I have used TLC-40 incubator in my rescue and it is a must have in any hedgehog/wildlife rescue as it has saved several hedgehogs in my rescue! The TLC incubators provide optimum temperature for very poorly hedgehogs to keep them warm which makes a huge difference in their rehabilitation. I managed to fundraise for a second incubator for my rescue to prepare for the upcoming hoglet season and I'm sure it will be put to good use.
I have been very fortunate to have been given one of the TLC-40 advanced incubators by the Leicestershire fire and Rescue as a fundraising gift for my hedgehog hospital. The day I presented with the incubator the RSPCA arrived with a very sick hedgehog for me to look after. The incubator was put to service straight away and the poorly little hedgehog was put in it. Over the coming days the hedgehog, called Sally, started to improve. Without a doubt the incubator save her life as she was so cold and collapsed when she came to me, I wouldn’t have been able to keep her warm with hot waters bottles and heat pads alone. She’s is now thriving and ready to be moved outside ready for release. The TLC-40 incubator has truly been a life saver for me and my little hedgehog rescue.
We own 2 of these brooders and it is a critical component for our hospital, we would be lost without Brinsea and their incredible brooders and incubators which we use for everything from eggs to hedgehogs, birds, foxes and badgers! I cannot recommend them enough and I know most wildlife rescue hospitals use them! Wonderful customer services as well!
We have this incubator at The British Wildlife Rescue Centre and it has saved many lives. We are now fundraising to be able to purchase more incubators for our brand new hospital.
Brilliant incubator. Reaches temperature within minutes. Simple to use and clean. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
With more than 145 years of caring for animals in Guernsey, the GSPCA is growing to meet the demands of the modern world with enthusiasm, optimism and energy. The role now, as in those early days, of preventing cruelty and promoting kindness to animals, through education, is as strong as ever. So much is achieved - through qualified and dedicated staff, our own welfare officer, friends and supporters throughout the island and through our association with the other animal welfare organisations around the world. We are completely funded through the generosity of the local community and without donations, monthly giving, legacies and our members we wouldn't be able to help the 1000's of animals every year that come through our doors. In 2016 we were awarded Guernsey Community Foundation Charity of the Year and in 2017 at the Ceva Animal Welfare Awards we were bestowed a Special International Animal Welfare Award. With over 2000 sick and injured wild animals through the doors at the GSPCA every year, life saving equipment is in high demand at the GSPCA and we are incredibly fortunate to have a number of Brinsea TLC-40 ADV 230V Thermal Life-support Cabinets and the TLC-50 ADV 230V Thermal Life-support Cabinets. At the Guernsey SPCA we cannot speak highly enough of the Brinsea TLC-40 and TLC-50 ADV 230V Thermal Life-support Cabinets. We see the life saving results these units can make in saving sick and injured animals as well as their fabulous and incredible use in helping appropriately house in an intensive care environment young animals from birds to kittens, puppies to hoglets and many others on a daily basis. Our first purchase of these units at the GSPCA was in 2011 and since then they have been used 24/7 with phenomenal results. Many of our Thermal Life-support Cabinets at the GSPCA have been on day and night since their purchase over 7 years ago without any issues or faults which show cases their longevity and robust design. The bulk of the species are sick, injured and baby birds often found cold, wet and close to death and these wonderful units help provide a temperature and environment that can really help save their life. During the Spring and Summer our Thermal Life-support Cabinets are full with baby birds and hoglets being hand reared and many of the 1500 injured birds that arrive each year will be housed in these units on arrival to warm them up and stabilise them. From oiled birds found on the Guernsey coastline to injured birds of prey, hundreds of hedgehogs covered in fleas and ticks every year to young animals needing hand rearing the TLC-40 and TLC-50 ADV 230V Thermal Life-support Cabinets are easy to clean and maintain and Brinsea are a fantastic company and we are so grateful for their quality range of equipment they produce and superb customer service. The GSPCA being the only all animal welfare organisation in Guernsey means that day and night we help animals in need and support our community and the TLC-40 and TLC-50 ADV 230V Thermal Life-support Cabinets are integral to our work to help care for those animals saved often in extreme and ill health and to have this equipment in our hospital areas means every year hundreds of animals are rehabilitated and lives saved that would likely perish without it.
We purchased our first incubator in 2017 and the difference it made to our success rate with orphaned baby hedgehogs was phenomenal so much so we purchases a further three TLC incubators this year. They take away the worry of temperature control, are easy to clean and provide a safe environment for them to grow. We have no hesitation in recommending this product, it has literally been a life saver for the little ones and has all round use for the adult hogs as well. We could not be without one now.
The TLC 40 was recomended to me by other hedgehog rescues and I am very impressed by the quality of the build. I have only just got it but I can see that its really going to be a great asset in the Autumn when cold wet baby hedgehogs start coming in.
I really don't know what I did before I had my Brinsea incubator. It is always occupied & I have raised many hoglets successfully in it.. It is very easy to use & is easy to clean too. Having a TLC-40 has helped me to improve the care I can offer hedgehogs who come into my rescue, & I can't wait to get a second one!
Small & compact specially for baby Hoglets mine is used frequently & keeps them at a constant temperature. Easy to use & reliable. Saving up for the bigger one now!
I bought this unit because I rehabilitate infant Cottontail rabbits. Rabbits are one of the most difficult species to rehab, but after purchasing this unit my success rate went up 35%. I am getting ready to purchase more of these. As a board member of the Wildlife Rehabilitator's Association of Massachusetts, I am suggesting that this unit be one of our organization's gifts to new rehabilitator's.
Here at Willows Hedgehog Rescue we admit and treat many hundreds of injured, ill and orphaned hedgehogs each year. The Brinsea TLC Incubators in the main hospital area are a vital tool in the hospitals facilities to help save very ill and orphaned hedgehogs. The very busy time for the incubators here at Willows are the late spring and summer months when orphaned and abandoned hoglet litters start to be admitted. Hoglets can be admitted from as young as just minutes old and we also have litters of premature hoglets admitted. The three Brinsea incubators in use at Willows Hedgehog Rescue provide a lifesaving facility for hoglets with the incubators running constantly housing many litters of hoglets over the spring and summer months. Hoglets that without the incubators would not be able to survive.
Adelaide Bat Care - I love this ICU to bits! They are fantastic for our little injured Microbats because it allows temperatures to be maintained at a temperature for the Microbats to recover without going into torpor, which they do easily especially during the day time. It provides the humidity that they require which once again is so important for their recovery from especially cat attacks! Many Bat Carers not never do without one. It has been the greatest asset to help the Microbats in the initial emergency care that they require when they first come into care, plus an absolute ‘must’ for newborn Microbat babies (pups).
